Dr Sam Gregson, Advisor

Sam is a particle physicist specialising in flavour physics and matter-antimatter asymmetries.

Sam undertook his undergraduate studies at Selwyn College, Cambridge University studying experimental and theoretical physics (2007 graduation).

After spending 2 years working in the low carbon technology and policy sector in London, Sam returned to Cambridge to complete his PhD in experimental particle physics (2009-14). During his PhD, he was honoured to be part of the Large Hadron Collider Beauty experiment collaboration (LHCb) at CERN, Geneva. His PhD specialised in studying matter-antimatter asymmetries in the decays of charmed mesons.

During that time Sam also undertook shift work in charge of the LHCb RICH Cerenkov particle detectors from the LHCb control room and also 100m underground in the LHCb cavern.

Sam has a very strong background in physics outreach and has appeared on many platforms including the BBC and Discovery Channel/PBS. He has also performed at many institutions including the Cambridge Union, CERN and The Royal Institution. He devised and project managed CERN’s first ever standup comedy evening: LHComedy: CERN after dark.

Sam runs a YouTube channel called “badboyofscience” where he covers cutting edge science in an accessible fashion and has his own science show vehicle that he brings to science festivals, schools and adult venues.
